I have not stopped growing & changing as an educator...i just don't write about it. Well, I write about it in 140 characters in chats on Twitter (@shirky17). Several people recently have asked "do you blog about what you do"...so maybe I should give it a try again. I started a separate blog a few years ago, but with trying to keep 6 class blogs and monitor student blogs/ePortfolios, I just couldn't keep up. So this summer is the time to try again. I am going to put it here instead of a separate Blogger space. Again, an experiment to see how it flows.
Summer is a time for reading and conferences...and learning something new for a conference presentation. So I will be writing about ideas and thoughts and books and how to build wearables and integrate into the classroom (conference preso "Wearables - AKA who doesn't want a light up tiara"). During the school year I should expand that to how we do things in the "classroom." FIRST THOUGHT.... "Pockets Of Intentional Disruption" https://dculberh.wordpress.com/2015/06/12/pockets-of-intentional-disruption/ One thing that bothers me greatly is we have been talking about changing education for at least 30 years (Calvin & Hobbes preso) and things are pretty much the same. Why is change in education GLACIAL!!! (we have the wrong system for what this generation needs) "We love the concept of creative, innovative thinkers, until we come face to face with their ideas. Especially when they push up against the power and pull of the organizational status quo. That’s when it gets real. That’s when it no longer seems easy or sounds as good." ... "We are going to have to infuse some pockets of creative destruction and disruption. And that won’t be at all comfortable," Will that be you? It is difficult to be the lone wolf in a building (SBL, PBL, maker, alternative assessment, ePortfolios, Google Apps....)
