The City of Akron, Ohio is continuing their revitalization efforts by repurposing old warehouses and manufacturing facilities, as well as downtown road construction (maddening some people). One of the latest to open is the Bounce Innovation Hub, on the first floor of 526 S. Main Street (which does not actually front onto Main Street, it is on W. Falor St.). Its main purpose is an entrepreneurship and business incubator & accelerator. I think they have been functioning for about a year. But this week they opened they refurbished first floor. They have some parking spots directly across from the entrance and there is a lot across the street. with “Visitors to Canal Place” spots. The first thing you encounter inside is the “Remarkable Cafe” which is supposed to have some good food and good coffee. People from outside the building (surrounding offices come in for it). Then there is the reception/security/check in desk. Bounce is a membership style. They have various memberships, including a day pass ($10), then various access levels ($36, 45, $65 per month) There are various size conference and event spaces. There is some big open space with tables and chairs for workspace. There are some “privacy” booths that could be used for phone calls or some audio recording/screencasting. They have a pretty large room at the back that is a MakerSpace (it was not open at the time ; they have just opened the facility). They have plans to have a second MakerSpace with different equipment on the second floor within a year. They also have some artwork and pieces by local crafts people around the facility. I believe they have more than just the first floor, but that is all the person spoke about, even though I asked if they had more on other floors. There are 9 floors in this building, and their website says they have a 24 seat eSports facility, which I did not see. Maybe the first floor is the first phase? Maybe some of the businesses they have been helping have office space on upper floors?
Just around the corner is The Missing Falls Brewery and I think that Akron MakerSpace is moving to a location near/above the brewery. The Spaghetti Warehouse is also nearby.
